We’re thrilled to announce a multispeaker session organised in collaboration with our partner, the Jožef Stefan Institute (JSI) in Ljubljana, Slovenia, and the stepping stone for ASTERISK, ANEMEL – one of the first EU-funded projects on water electrolysis. The webinar will take place on Monday 23 November at 15:00 CET under the title ‘Challenges and opportunities in scaling up water electrolysers’.
We’ll be joined by four outstanding experts to discuss this fascinating topic. They are Julie Mougin, from CEA-Liten (France); Luc Bondaz, from DeltaSpark (Switzerland); Marie Macherhammer, from HyCentA (Austria); and John Varcoe, from the University of Surrey (United Kingdom). We will also count with the participation of Suraj Gupta, ASTERISK researcher at JSI in Slovenia, who has organised the event, giving the opening welcome.
As ANEMEL comes to an end this year, this webinar marks the final session in the project’s series. Throughout its webinars, which were streamed live on ANEMEL’s YouTube channel, we explored the key challenges and opportunities in green hydrogen production, seawater electrolysis and sustainability. But this is not the end! We’ll continue to discuss topics that fascinate us through the ASTERISK YouTube channel.

What better reason to mark your calendar and join us for a fitting farewell to ANEMEL?

About the speakers:
Marie Macherhammer has been Head of the Electrolysis and Power-to-X Division at HyCentA Research GmbH in Graz since January 2022, where she leads a team of up about 30 staff. She is involved in the research and development of electrolysis technologies, ranging from individual cells through stacks to complete systems. Prior to this, she spent almost three years at the same company as a Senior Researcher and Project Manager, working on various hydrogen projects. Her professional background is in chemical engineering. She completed her PhD in 2013 at Graz University of Technology.
Julie Mougin is Deputy Director for hydrogen technologies at CEA, in charge of hydrogen production, storage and fuel cells. She is also Leader of the Technical Committee 1 on Hydrogen Production for Hydrogen Europe Research, co-chair of the Hydrogen Implementation Working group of the SET Plan and Board member of France Hydrogen. Graduated from Grenoble Institute of Technology in Electrochemistry, she obtained a PhD in Materials Science and began her career in industry in the field of materials for energy and automotive before joining CEA in 2005 to work in the field of hydrogen technologies.
John Varcoe trained at the University of Exeter, receiving a BSc degree in 1995 and PhD in 2000 He then held post-doctoral positions at the University of Surrey (1999-2006). He was appointed Lecturer at the University of Surrey in August 2006, Reader in April 2011 and Professor of Materials Chemistry in April 2013. He was awarded an EPSRC Leadership Fellowship (2010-2015). He is currently Associate Head of School for Research and Innovation for the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. His research is focused on the development of ion-exchange membranes for electrochemical applications, including fuel cells, electrolysers, and electrodialysis. His speciality is radiation-grafted polymers including anion-exchange membranes.
Luc Bondaz is the CEO and co-founder of DeltaSpark. He holds a PhD in membrane-based CO2 capture from EPFL and a master’s degree in Business Analytics from Imperial College London.
