Now that we have learnt about the challenges and objectives of our sister project Sea4Volt, it is time to announce our next virtual meeting to discuss green hydrogen, seawater electrolysis and much more.
We are pleased to announce our third webinar, which will take place on 6 May at 13:00 CEST (Brussels). This session will feature Nikolaos Margaritis, researcher at the Center for Research & Technology Hellas (CERTH), Greece and HySEas Project Coordinator.
HySEas is a Horizon Europe project co-funded by the European Union and the Clean Hydrogen Partnership, which aims to develop a bipolar membrane water electrolyser that combines cation and anion exchange layers with a water-splitting catalyst, all in one unit, specifically designed for seawater.
This project is breaking new ground by finding ways to extract valuable metals from seawater brine and swapping out rare catalysts like iridium and platinum for more abundant alternatives. With the addition of innovative plasma treatments and advanced simulations, HySEas is paving the way for an efficient and sustainable approach to harnessing hydrogen from the ocean.
Nikolaos Margaritis holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece. His work focuses on the design and operation of experimental facilities and the characterisation of alternative fuels. He has participated in several European-funded projects promoting the use of bioenergy in rural and urban areas, and he is also an expert in alternative decarbonisation technologies.
